“La Moderna”, La 1’s early afternoon daily drama, is recording its third season, which will welcome a slate of new characters. These new additions will mark the lives of the tea room’s employees and patrons, and their new storylines will air soon.
Lola Marceli, Jesús Mosquera, Miguel Hermoso, Magdalena Tejado, Diana Palazón, Pepe Nufrio, and Clara Alvarado play some of the main protagonists of the new storylines on “La Moderna”, produced by RTVE and Mediawan in collaboration with Boomerang TV. These new additions will help bolster the storylines, and they’ll be joined later in the season by Eduardo Rosa, Fanny Gautier, Maribel Ripoll, and Roger Berruezo, among others.
Miguel Hermoso is Emiliano Pedraza
Emiliano is married to Maruja and is the father of Iván and Paula. He is a man with a dark past who is hiding a secret. He is intelligent, authoritarian, ambitious, and ruthless. He is an old friend of Don Fermin’s, the owner of the tea room “La Moderna”, who has come back to Madrid from Argentina.
His father was an important cotton textile tycoon in Latin America, and Emiliano’s duty is to follow his father’s footsteps and take over the family estate. That is why, even though, as a young heir, he fell in love with Pepita, the cook’s assistant, Emiliano was forced to comply with his father’s demands.
He married Marija, the daughter of a wealthy bourgeois family. But their marriage has always been a mere façade. In fact, Pepita is still working for him as his housekeeper.
Lola Marceli is Maruja de Pedraza
Maruja is Emiliano’s wife and Iván and Paula’s mother. She is a woman who has always done what was expected of her.
She accepted the marriage her father arranged for her with Emiliano Pedraza. She has been an exemplary wife and gave Emiliano the two children he wanted. But
Emiliano neither loves nor respects Maruja. He simply needs her in order to keep up appearances.
When Maruja meets César Morel, her value system and her entire life are shaken to the core.
Diana Palazón is Pepita Costa
The Pedraza family’s housekeeper. A discrete, disciplined and loyal woman.
She has devoted her life to looking after the family, and was blown away by the young heir, Emiliano, from a very young age. But theirs is an impossible love, because Emiliano never dared confront this father and risk losing his inheritance.
Pepita makes tremendous sacrifices for her son, Rodrigo, who would have had a very difficult life with her as a single mother had it not been for Emiliano’s support. She is proud to see that Rodrigo has become the master’s right-hand man in his ventures.
Magdalena Tejado is Paula Pedraza
Emiliano and Maruja’s daughter and Iván’s sister. An intelligent, passionate, ambitious woman, like her father, but with completely different values: she is empathetic, supportive, generous, and courageous.
After studying engineering in English, she returns to Spain shortly after her parents settle in Madrid. There, she comes up with the idea of opening a clothing and accessory shop that will allow women from all walks of life to dress as if they were wearing haute couture but at affordable prices.
Pepe Nufrio is Iván Pedraza
Emiliano and Maruja’s son, and Paula’s brother. Iván has inherited his father’s selfishness, controlling nature, and a certain tendency towards cruelty. He’s also a disappointment to everyone, because he’s annoying, impertinent, and a braggart.
He is extremely envious of and full of hatred towards his sister Paula and Pepita’s son Rodrigo, because he’s always been keenly aware of the fact that his father thinks they are better than him.
His relationship with César Morel’s sister, Mercedes, offers a sliver of hope that he can somehow hope to become a better person.
Jesús Mosquera is Rodrigo Costa
Rodrigo is Pepita’s son. He is a compassionate, prudent, humble young man of notable intelligence.
His father ran off before he was born, and they never heard from him again. Emiliano was the only one willing to open his door to Pepita while she was pregnant. In time, the special treatment Rodrigo has received will determine the future of the entire family: his relationship with Iván grows worse by the minute. But the opposite is true with Paula.
Miguel Ángel Muñoz is César Morel
César Morel returns to Madrid to try to solve his problems with the Spanish justice system. In this new stage, he leaves behind his troubled past to focus on a new business with help from his sister Mercedes.
César seems a lot more serene, but the Pedraza family will chart the path that César is to follow in coming months.
Clara Alvarado is Mercedes Morel
César Morel’s sister. A compassionate, patient, sincere, and flexible woman. Until she was well into her teens, she had no idea that César was part of a Marseillaise clan or that he was a nightclub owner.
Now that César is no longer running away from the law, the two are working together. Mercedes is smart and eager to learn and quickly becomes his right-hand woman.
