The International Academy of Television Arts and Science has announced the nominees for the 2024 International Emmy Awards. “La Moderna,” the daily drama produced by Boomerang TV and broadcast on RTVE’s La 1 weekdays at 4:30 p.m. is up for the prestigious award in the Telenovela category.
“La Moderna” is among the 56 nominees, from 21 countries, competing in the 14 categories of the International Emmy Awards. All 56 candidates will gather between November 22 and November 24 in New York at the International Emmy World Television Festival. The winners will be announced at the gala event held on November 25.
The world of Spanish fiction has a lot to celebrate because both “La Moderna” another RTVE drama, “La Promesa,” are up for Best Telenovela.
“La Moderna,” which premiered in September 2023, is an adaptation of the novel “Tea Rooms” by Luisa Carnés, one of the writers of the Generation of 1927. Its storylines, which are set in Madrid in the 1930s, take audiences back to a distinguished tea room where the venues employees meet its distinguished customers.
The original cast, headed by Helena Ezquerro, Stéphanie Magnin, and Almagro San Miguel, will experience a major upheaval starting next Monday. Following its first two seasons, on September 23, “La Moderna” will premiere its third season with totally revamped storylines and a new starring cast that will join the tea room’s employees and customers. Lola Marceli, Jesús Mosquera, Miguel Hermoso, Magdalena Tejado, Diana Palazón, Pepe Nufrio, and Clara Alvarado will be the new protagonists. Also joining them on the cast, and already familiar among the series’ audience, are other performers such as Begoña Maestre, Carles Sanjaime, Teresa Hurtado de Ory, Berta Galo, Llorenç González, Alba Gutiérrez, Sara Rivero, and Bárbara Maestranza, among others.
Boomerang TV is a leading creator and producer of telenovelas. For over 10 years, the company produced such iconic series as “Old Bridge Secret” and “Acacias 38,” garnering huge success and great international acclaim. As far as “La Moderna,” in addition to this coveted International Emmy Award nomination, the series has also won the Fical Award at the 2023 Almería Film Festival.
